The Banana Peel Theory

Earlier today I visited my mother who had helped me print my newest resume (the printer at my house refused to print anything other than a light grey rectangle). On my way out, resume in hand, she asked me if I'd eaten anything and offered me a banana for the road(I can't be the only one that still sings gwen stefani when i'm trying to spell bananas, right? Didn't think so). I accepted and proceeded to take the banana with me on my quest to downtown Chicago where I had class (ON SATURDAY mind you). I had time to kill after parking my car and thought to myself "Why not buy myself a new shirt" (Random I know, but thats who I am). On my way back from Old Navy I set to consume the fruit I had stashed in my backpack.
As I walked downtown with the banana pilled, people noticed that I eat bananas "upside down". Some people even looked at me as if I was weird. Some frowned, some scowled, all were confused. Why do I eat bananas "upside down"? Why do I peel from the bottom of bananas? Well, that answer stems from another story (ohh.. INCEPTION). A few years ago I had a class called Animal Behavior with a man named Alan Molumby. Alan showed us that monkeys and apes actually peel upside down because it doesn't leave peel on the banana. I wondered why I had been peeling bananas the hard way for so long. Its because I just accepted that thats the way they should be peeled. I never questioned the approach to peeling a banana, I never thought that everyone else could be wrong. People who refuse to find a new way to do things for the simple fact that the old way still works, are doomed to diaster when the old way becomes outdated, unfashionable, or played out. In my opinion, life is about exploring new possibilities to doing things, and not accepting "thats weird" as an answer.  You may even find out that your new way is more efficient.

  2. Interesting. And very true. Social behavior is often confusing, and when examined, downright stupid.
